John 14:6, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." With Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you are guaranteed a spot inside the Pearly Gates.
So, do you want to know how Jesus can be your personal Lord and Savior? Well, keep reading.
The Bad News
Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
That word "all" means everybody...anyone who has ever lived...anyone who is living now...and, anyone who will ever live...that qualifies as "all."
"...all have sinned..." - what is sin? Well, sin is anything that we think, say, or do that
makes God unhappy...that is sin. The more common sins that we think of quickly would be lying, stealing, or cheating, but there are a lot of other things that qualifies as sin. We must read God's word daily so that we can recognize those things that displease God.
This verse tells us that everybody is a sinner...we've all messed up...we all have done, said, and thought things that makes God unhappy...we're all sinners.
Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages
of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Okay, so what is a "wage?" A "wage" is payment for something.
"...the wages
of sin is death..." In this verse, the word "death" means "eternal death." Very simply put, dying and going to Hell.
So, from what these two verses tell us,
we are all sinners and deserve to die and go to Hell.
That's pretty bad news.
The Good News
The second part of Romans 6:23 says, "...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
When does a gift become yours? Why, when you take it, of course. It's the same exact way with the gift of salvation that
Jesus has for each one of us. All we have to do is except it, and trust Jesus to keep His promise...which He ALWAYS does.
So, the good news is that Christ paid the price for our sin. He died on the cross and rose from the dead three days later defeating Satan and sin.
"For Christ hath once suffered for sins,
the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God..." 1 Peter 3:18
"But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us." Romans 5:8
There is absolutely nothing we can do to earn salvation...it's a gift from Jesus to us. All we have to do is accept it.
"Not by
works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost." Titus 3:5
Jesus' promise to us is if we simply accept Him as Lord and Savior
of our life, He will become our best friend and will make us a member of His family. That way, when we die we can go to Heaven and live with Him forever and ever.
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish (die and go
to Hell), but have everlasting life (die and go to Heaven).
That is certainly
good news!
